I never understood

The meaning of the word

Those I was meant to have

Were ripped from beneath me

By pain, pain you can’t know

I was left to the wind

To carry me where he wanted

Letting him tell me who

And where to be

Then I grew my own

From deep inside my womb

So I could feel the earth

Beneath my feet

And find a place to be

The roots became trees

That could hear the wind

That which has carried me

And now leads me home

A home I come back to

Like an echo

From a very distant past.
